Conference Objective: Assisting industrial technology teachers and local district planners make a successful program transition to the national Standards for Technological Literacy: Content for the Study of Technology. Provide examples for engaging students in the study of technology systems through “hands-on” investigative, “design-and-build”, technical problem solving approaches. Featuring construction, manufacturing, communication, energy/power/transportation, and bio-related technology systems content across elementary, middle, and high school levels. Featuring several examples of STEM education programs throughout the state of Ohio.
• The T and E of STEM Education - Program includes a variety of “how to”, “best advice”, “hands-on”, “get your questions answered”, and “good ideas” presentations by teachers, teacher educators, company and association representatives demonstrating technology systems content and technical problem strategies and projects.
• Technology Systems Materials and Equipment - Exhibit of commercially developed curriculum materials, resources, supplies and equipment. Opportunity to review your program needs and get hands-on experiences with new teaching materials.
• Teaching About Technology Display - Table exhibits of teacher developed ideas or units for engaging students in studying technology systems content through hands-on technology learning activities.
• Technology Resource Materials - Handout materials from trade associations, government agencies, specific industrial applications, and “how it works” materials that illustrate the great variety of teachable content ac
ross all of the technology systems areas.
• Swap Meet Freebies - “Give away” of extra materials, supplies, equipment and other neat stuff Tech Ed teachers would find useful.
• Educational Program Connections - Handout materials and information about a variety of public and private sponsored opportunities for Tech Ed teachers and/or students to participate in educational programs, competitions, contests, awards and shows that support student experiences in learning technology systems content and technical problem solving; e.g., National Engineers Week.
• Professional Development Connections - Opportunity for OTEA councils, affiliated organizations and special interest groups to meet in sessions to conduct business meetings and discuss topics of interest over the lunch break. Included are Ohio Council Technology Teacher Education, Ohio College Student Technology Education Association, Ohio Technology Student Association, and OTEA District Associations. And lots of opportunities for teacher to teacher contacts!
