OTEA Membership,

We are in times of change and change is upon us.  ITEA has officially become ITEEA, The International Technology and Engineering Educators Association.  There are numerous reasons for the name change, summarized in a quote from the ITEEA news release in February 2010:

“The name change properly positions the association to deal with the ‘T’ & ‘E’ of a strong STEM education. The association has recently produced The Overlooked STEM Imperatives (ITEA, 2009) a publication that brings attention to technology and engineering as missing components of a solid STEM education. ITEEA’s continuing initiatives with the Engineering by Design™ curriculum work further adds to the promotion of technology and engineering at the K-12 school level.”

Following the lead of our parent organization, OTEA is also considering the changing of its name.  An official amendment to the OTEA Constitution has been proposed:
Existing:  Article 1 – NAME: The name of this organization shall be the
Ohio Technology Education Association.

Proposed: Article 1 – NAME: The name of this organization shall be the
Ohio Technology and Engineering Educators Association.

Per existing constitutional guidelines, the official vote on the proposed name change will take place at the annual Spring Conference in Worthington, Ohio on April 9-10, 2010.  You are invited and encouraged to attend the conference and to vote on this proposed name change.  A two-thirds majority of those that vote is required in order to pass the amendment.

Thank you,

Todd E. Heslet
